Ocean Code Handroll Bar Serving Up Sushi in Carle Place

A hit with patrons who have given new Japanese restaurants great reviews online.

Positioned – somewhat ironically – in the Red Lobster shopping center on Old Country Road in Carle Place is the newest sushi joint to hit the Island. With a selection of nori wrapped raw options and other typical Japanese sushi items on the menu, Ocean Code Handroll Bar is somewhat the antithesis of the plates you’d find at the typical chain seafood restaurant.

The décor is spare with sim lighting and dark stone flooring, an inviting stone garden welcoming visitors inside. To order, visitors are given a pencil to hand circle choices on a paper menu.

The salmon, yellowtail, scallop, crab, lobster and spicy tuna hand rolls seems to be favorites of online reviewers.

On Yelp, Shirley S, said it was “a gem” and gave it five stars.

“I love Kazunori in the city, so this is definitely a great alternative without having to make the trek to the city,” she said, comparing Ocean Code roll a New York City sushi place. “Their handrolls were very fresh and the seaweed is crispy…. Staff provided exceptional service and were very attentive. We will definitely return!”

Evelyn A, agreed and described it the same way.

“Stumbled onto this little gem while I was in the area,” she wrote. “Very cute place and customer service was wonderful.  “If you are looking for great sushi, give this place a try. The seaweed wrap tastes delicious. I highly recommend them.”

Location: 227 Old Country Road, Carle Place, (516) 544-6199.
