Brooklyn Chef Opens Bluebird Kitchen in Bellmore

Occupies former location of Red Robin on Merrick Road.

Bluebird Kitchen, a newly opened restaurant in Bellmore wants to be the place you go to for all your special occasions like date night, birthdays, engagements, and graduations – a local place that is woven into the fabric of your memories. Named for the bird that symbolizes hope, the chef and owner of two Brooklyn establishments told Patch that he wanted to bring a little of that experience to Long Island.

The space is newly renovated and used to house Red Robin, a gourmet burger chain. (The Bluebird name might ring back to the former location’s occupant, although that is not confirmed.)

Appetizers include their pigs in a blanket, on a puff pastry, everything spice, jalapeño sauerkraut, and bourbon honey mustard ($10) and smac-and-cheese skillet roasted, house made pasta shells, and a four cheese blend ($14). The main dish menu has a brick pressed chicken, which is a crispy half chicken, chicken jus, garlic whipped potatoes, charred red onions, and chimichurri ($17), slow cooked ribs, pork ribs, espresso bbq sauce, red cabbage slaw, and house fries ($28), and chicken parm, which is breaded and pounded chicken breast, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, and parmigiano ($26).

If fish is your dish they have a blac sea bass on the menu made with roasted cauliflower, mushrooms, pickled red onions, and caper brown butter ($28) or grilled branzino,with quinoa, black olive, herb salad, and charred lemon ($32).

They also feature sandwiches like the Bluebird classic burger, an 8oz seared beef burger, lettuce, tomato, KMM sauce, adirondack cheddar, and house fries ($20), a lamb burger, an 8oz seared lamb burger, feta, house tzatziki sauce, and house fries ($22).

For dessert try the banana cream pie ($10) or the chocolate mousse cake, with a graham cracker crust and nutella drizzle ($12).

On Yelp, Mary G, from Manhattan, loved it the first time she went.

“It was my first time at Blue Bird and it was great,” she wrote. “Great food and service… Parking lot is huge so cant wait to go over the summer hoping they have some outdoor seating!”

Kimberly W, from Freeport, said that she met the owner and thought he was amazing.

“He came out and chatted with us,” she said. “The food was well cooked, tasted great. Excellent. I mean excellent service.”
