Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Restaurant Takes Over Swell Taco Location in Patchogue

Queens Mexican restaurateur chose the village for his second location.

After Swell Taco closed its doors last year, the owner of a Mexican restaurant in Queens called Ruta Oaxaca decided to fill the void. Tacos will still be on the menu for those who miss Swell.

Those tacos will include their Cochinita Pibil with Yucatan marinated slow cooked Pork, avocado salsa verde, habanero pickled red onions, and cilantro ($21.95), Crispy Shrimp taco that is guajillo marinated, and includes manzano chile aioli, queso fresco, and coleslaw ($22.95) and a  Grilled Chicken taco with jalapeno marinated chicken, queso asado, chile de arbol salsa, pickled red onion, and cilantro ($21.95).

But this is much more than a taco joint.

They also serve up Enchiladas like their Verdes, which is chicken, Swiss style tomatillo cream salsa, melted chihuahua cheese, pickled red onions, and cilantro ($23.95) and Mole with chicken, Oaxaca mole, queso fresco, platano macho puree, crema, onions, and cilantro ($24.95).

Entrees include a Pechuga & Mole Verde with mole verde, green zucchini, beregena, ayocotes, and roasted pumpkin seeds ($23.95), Costilla Istmenas which is slow cooked baby back ribs, guava chipotle glaze, cherry tomatoes, and fennel salad ($28.95) , and Steak Oaxaqueno, a grilled New York strip steak, mole coloradito, melted chihuahua cheese, sweet plantains, nopales salad, queso fresco, and cilantro ($32.95).

On Yelp, Danielle D, from Patchogue, gave it five stars.

“What a wonderful experience at Ruta Oaxaca,” she wrote. “When walking in you are greeted by a warm atmosphere. They have done an amazing job at remodeling the restaurant.”

She loved the margaritas and there was only one drawback.

“My only regret was that I was so full I couldn’t eat more lol,” she wrote. “That’s okay though because I will be back later in the week. The restaurant is truly a gem for top notch food, experience and lovely employees. Run don’t walk.”
