Applebee’s Announces Closures Across Country – Including in New York – Amid Downturn in Business
Well-known casual dining restaurant chain Applebee’s, amid an overall slowdown in the restaurant industry spurred on by national economic woes that have been seeing people dining out less often, has announced that they will be closing a number of “underperforming” locations in early 2026 while focusing on and revamping more profitable ones.
Dine Brands Global, Applebee’s parent company, confirmed the closures, which will include location in New York. While several locations across the country have already announced their closure dates, the ones on the chopping block in NY have yet to be revealed.
The closures are part of the company’s strategy to expand upon more profitable concepts and grow in regions where they are more popular, concepts that Dine Brands Global management has expressed confidence during the downturn much of the industry is currently struggling with.
