Bethpage’s Embassy Diner Owner Feeds Stranded Hospital Workers During Record-Setting Blizzard

The owner of Bethpage’s Embassy Diner is being heralded as a Good Samaritan after he went out of his way to feed dozens of stranded hospital workers during the recent record-setting blizzard that pounded Long Island with over 12 inches of snow in some places.

Gus Tsiorvas, the diner’s owner, was called by his friend Joseph Manopella, president of St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage during the storm, who asked if he could help feed over 80 workers at the hospital after the facility’s kitchen staff were unable to make it in.

30 minutes later, Tsiorvas had hot meals ready for the hungry hospital staff, consisting of plates filled with delicious breakfast staples such as pancakes and waffles…and all of them on the house.

“They’re my neighbor, how could I charge them?” he said.

However, this wasn’t the only example of Tsiorvas’ generosity during he storm.

“I actually just finished doing an order for PSE&G for 100 people when Joe called,” he said in a recent media interview. “I went back to the cook, and I said, ‘Listen, we’ve got one more. So he looked at me, goes, ‘Are you serious?!’ I said, ‘Yeah, we got one more. Do it again.’”

And to top it off, he also gave out $300 bonuses to his tireless team for slaving over the hot stoves to make all of that food.

“They put in their blood, sweat, and tears for our community,” Tsiorvas added. “So I’m big into that — you take care of the guys that take care of you.”
