Crumbl Founders “Stepping Away from Day-to-Day Operating Roles” of Bakery Chain

Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley, cousins and founders of Crumbl, announced on social media this week that they will be departing their leadership roles within the popular multinational franchise chain of bakeries.

McGowan, who served as CEO, and Hemsley, Chief Brand Officer, are also being joined by Crumbl’s Chief Technology Officer Bryce Redd; they trio shared a letter on Instagram on Monday, May 11 detailing their decisions to step away from their “day-to-day operating roles” at the Utah-based company. The three will remain on the company’s board of directors until their replacements have been found.

Crumbl was founded by Hemsley and McGowan in 2017 while Hemsley was a student at Utah State University; the two utilized A/B testing methods to come up with their milk chocolate chip cookie recipe; by 2020, the company had 90 locations.

The company is not open on Sundays, nor do they use coffee as an ingredient due to the founder’s Mormon upbringings.
