Mogu Modern Chinese Kitchen Set to Occupy New SunVet Mall in Holbrook
It’s been a long time since locals who have fond memories shopping at the SunVet have had something to celebrate. For years the mall stood for everything that was failing in the brick-and-mortar business model as the mostly empty halls echoed of a past when Sam Goody was the go to spot for new music and Blockbuster Video was a fun Friday night. There was even a Twitter account dedicated to the mall’s decline, sputing sarcastic and hysterical tweets. One of the most tragic parts of the SunVet Mall was the loss of Aegean Pizza, one of the best slices this side of Sunrise Highway, which hung on to the bitter end. IYKYK.
Now, a developer is transforming the old place into an outdoor shopping center with high-end shops already committed like Nordstrom Rack. According to an article in Long Island Business News from August, Mogu Modern Chinese Kitchen is also planning to occupy the new mall once it opens. With locations in Hauppauge, Farmingdale and Commack, this Chinese food restaurant is not like your typical local spot. It has modern décor and food prep – they use smart tech and air-baking techniques – and wants to change what you think you know about Chinese takeout.
