Quackerjack Relieved as Ducks Host Chicken Nugget Eating Championship
Long Island Ducks’ mascot, Quackerjack, can breathe a sigh of relief – the Ducks are all about chicken nuggets this week. In a unique twist, the Long Island Ducks, alongside Wendy’s and Major League Eating, are set to host the inaugural Chicken Nugget Eating Championship at Fairfield Properties Ballpark on Friday, July 26th.
“We are honored to host this inaugural event at our ballpark,” said Ducks General Manager Sean Smith. “It’s a thrill to host some of the biggest names in competitive eating, and we’re all looking forward to watching them chow down.”
Top-ranked competitive eaters, including #2-ranked Patrick Bertoletti from Chicago, IL, #3-ranked Geoffrey Esper from Oxford, MA, and #4-ranked James Webb from Little El, TX, are slated to compete in this finger-licking contest. The event will start at 5:35 p.m., just before the Ducks’ game against the Lancaster Stormers, with the gates opening early for fans at 5:15 p.m. Competitors will have eight minutes to consume as many Wendy’s Chicken Nuggets as possible, with a whopping $10,000 prize purse and a shot at a new World Record on the line.
This event brings a flavorful twist to the ballpark’s lineup. Patrick Bertoletti, fresh off his Mustard Belt victory at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, is expected to bring his A-game. The competition aims to break Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas’ long-standing World Record of 80 nuggets in five minutes.
Major League Eating, the World governing body of all stomach-centric sports, conducts more than 80 events annually, including the famed Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest.
“Wendy’s serves the best chicken nuggets in the game made with all white meat, the ideal addition to Major League Eating’s 2024 slate of sanctioned competitions,” said Major League Eating emcee George Shea. “Some of our boldest and fiercest competitors will be in attendance in hopes of topping the current World Record.”
