Chick-fil-A Planned For College Plaza in Selden
Another Chick-fil-A is coming to Long Island. The popular fast-casual chicken restaurant will be going into the College Plaza shopping center in Selden.
The plan is to tear down two existing pad sites on the property nearby the post office and construct two new buildings, one will be the new Chick-fil-A and the other is to be an Aspen Dental center.
Although not mentioned during a December 18th Brookhaven Town Planning Board meeting which properties will be demolished, plans for the new buildings seem to show the removal of two buildings facing Middle Country Road. One is a small free-standing retail building that was once Sunset Lighting and the other a closed-down knife sharpening store that had been at the location for many years.
The 4,755-square-foot Chick-fil-A will feature a double track drive-thru and outdoor seating. The developer is looking for two variances on the plan related to landscaping. There was also concern that cars queuing up at the drive-thru would backup into the roadway. According to representatives at the planning board meeting, the configuration of the site means cars will back up into the parking lot.
The planning board placed the matter on its decision calendar.
Chick-fil-A stores have a policy of closing on Sundays so employees can be at home with family or “worship if they chose,” according to the restaurant website. But a New York State bill might disrupt that long-standing rule, which will force restaurants at travel plazas on the state thruway system to be open seven-days-a-week. There are seven Chick-fil-A restaurants at the rest areas along New York State thruways. The proposed law is not expected to affect other locations in the state and is to “ensure that New York State’s transportation facilities offer a reliable source of food services.”
