Firehouse Restaurant & Bar in Sound Beach Releases Menu, Announces Early March Opening
After three years, the Firehouse Restaurant & Bar at 30 New York Avenue in Sound Beach is almost ready to open. According to owners, Joe and Barbara DiBernardo, their dream of opening a restaurant at the old Hartlin Inn site in memory of their son FDNY Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo will be realized soon. Although a specific grand opening date has not been announced yet, they expect to swing open their doors in early March, once their liquor license comes through.
In anticipation of the opening next month, the Firehouse Restaurant & Bar has started a Facebook page to update people. They also just released a link for people to preview their completed menu, including a full menu, bar menu, cocktails and drinks. Many of the items are named with a fire department theme.
Starters on the menu include the Hook & Ladder Pretzel, choice of salted or everything served with honey mustard and cheddar cheese sauce, Firehouse Wings, with a choice of sauces including their firehouse sauce, BBQ, teriyaki, thai chile, cajun dry rub, and garlic parmesan, and a Grilled Vegetables Apparatus Antipasto, with grilled zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, sliced tomato, and fresh mozzarella with a balsamic glaze.
There are Truckie Sandwiches, which includes a Stop, Drop & Lobster Roll, Rescue Reuben Grill, and a Dalmatian Dog. They have burgers and a list of entrees too.
Cocktails include a Hot Zone, made from Tanteo jalapeno tequila, fresh pineapple, fresh lime juice and agave, and a Bronx Sour, with Woodford bourbon, egg white, simple, fresh lime and lemon and topped with a merlot float.
They also have a specially priced bar menu and happy hour menu, which according to the menu is 3-7pm, Monday through Friday.
A long time coming, Firehouse Restaurant & Bar serves as a tribute in memory of the DiBernardos’ son Joey, who lost his life as a result of injuries he sustained on January 23, 2005 serving in Rescue Company 3 in the Bronx. He and fellow firefighters were trapped when fire ripped through a tenement building and they were forced to jump when fire flashed through an apartment door. The day became known as Black Sunday because in addition to the tragedy in the Bronx, another firefighter lost his life in a fire on the same day in Brooklyn.
The DiBernardos have spent a lot of time and effort to modernize and update the building for Firehouse Restaurant & Bar and they are almost ready to share what they have created with the community.
We will update the story once Firehouse Restaurant & Bar has a grand opening date. Scroll down to see the Firehouse Restaurant & Bar menus or click here to view them online.
