Italian-Style Cafe Planned For Main Street in Bay Shore

Bella Mia Cafe, an Italian-style restaurant serving breakfast, authentic paninis, specialty pizzas, espresso, and gelato is coming to a vacant corner storefront at 136 Main Street in Bay Shore on the corner of Ocean Avenue.

The proposed restaurant will occupy a 2,565-square-foot space in the mixed-use building that used to be the home of Bagel Cafe. The two-story building will have four apartments on the second floor.

According to a representative of the owner at the March Islip Town Planning Board meeting the cafe will have 65 seats and plans to be open from 6am to midnight to serve the breakfast and late night crowd. A website is already in place and says that the Bella Mia Cafe menu will bring the flavors of Italy to Bay Shore with authentic ingredients and freshly prepared food, offering a healthier alternative to fast food. They will also offer pinsas, a Roman style specialty pizza, made with GMO-free soy, rice, and wheat flour, and are low-fat, low-calorie, and easy to digest.

According to discussions at the planning board meeting exterior work will be done by mid-April and then interior work will be started. The board stipulated the facade be finished before a building permit will be issued. There is no opening date yet.

We have reached out to the owners and will update this story when we get more information.
