Ixchel Mexican Cuisine Replacing Old Fields Barbecue in East Setauket
UPDATE: We spoke with the owners of Ixchel Mexican Cuisine. They hope that their new restaurant – set to open in early October – will fill the niche of authentic sit-down, full service Mexican food in East Setauket. Click here to read the full story!
A Mexican restaurant is set to replace the former Old Fields Barbecue (then rebranded to Old Fields Tavern) at 130 Old Town Road in East Setauket. A sign proclaiming that Ixchel Mexican Cuisine is coming soon went up recently.
Rumors had been circulating that a Mexican spot was opening up but no one stepped up to claim if they were true. It seems this latest development confirms the talk around town.
Numerous calls to the real estate agency for the property went unanswered and no one responded back to voicemails left at two phone numbers listed on signage at the property.
The property was formerly Raga Indian Restaurant until it closed and was completely remodeled by the owners of Old Fields.
This new restaurant will help add to the cuisine available in the neighborhood, even with other Mexican style restaurants in the area like Right Coast Taqueria opening on Nesconset Highway and Chico’s Tex Mex around the corner. This new place seems to be fitting a niche in Mexican restaurants for a sit-down place rather than fast-casual.
Another restaurant is set to open in late 2023 called Elaine’s, taking over the building where Thai Show North currently resides.
According to YucatanToday.com, Ixchel was the Maya goddess of the moon and she was the wife of the sun god Ak Kin.
We are following up to try to get in touch with the owners and will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
