Owners of Crumbl Cookies in Massapequa Set to New Open Shop
When Malay and Riddhi Patel, who are both pharmacists by trade, wanted to start their own business, the natural thing was to look at opening a pharmacy but when that didn’t pan out, they pivoted to cookies of all things.
“We looked into franchises and we looked at Crumbl,” said Malay Patel during a phone interview with LongIslandRestaurants.com recently. “Crumbl has a different tune; it’s a different brand.”
That was almost two years ago and now the Patels are on the eve of their grand opening at 8am on Friday, September 1st in their Massapequa spot in the Phillips at Sunrise shopping center.
The grand opening week menu will contain six of the 200+ weekly rotating flavors, including Milk Chocolate Chip. Some of Crumbl’s specialty flavors include favorites like Cornbread, Cookies & Cream, S’mores, Key Lime Pie, Peppermint Bark, Caramel Popcorn, Buttermilk Pancake and Galaxy Brownie.
It was, according to Patel, a long process from contacting Crumbl corporate to finding the right spot to open. Searching for the perfect location, as any Long Islander knows, isn’t always easy.
“That was a process,” said Patel. “Finding real estate on Long island is not easy.”
They fitted out a former smoke shop to transform it into Crumbl, which took about five months to complete. They picked Massapequa because it checked the right boxes.
“We were searching for areas that were best suited for us and for Crumbl,” said Patel. “It fit the criteria that we were looking for and the brand was looking for.”
Mr. Patel has taken a leave of absence from being a pharmacist while he got his cookie shop in ship shape. Mrs. Patel is still working.
While the grand opening is set for tomorrow, Crumbl in Massapequa already has opened its doors for a soft opening and people are getting excited.
“We’ve already had a bunch of interest here,” said Patel.
The store will be open from 8am–10pm on weekdays and 8am–12am on Fridays and Saturdays.
