The Rabbit Hole Bar & Grill Opens at Former Anchor Down Spot in Merrick

Tucked into the bays between Jones Beach and Merrick Avenue, the only two eateries on Bayberry Avenue in Merrick have both changed their names this season.

First, AcQua renamed itself Fabio’s on the Water. Now, after Anchor Down Seafood Bar & Grill announced this fall that they were shutting down to configure things, the restaurant has reopened as The Rabbit Hole Bar & Grill.

The Rabbit Hole touts itself as a “chef created gastropub in the heart of South Merrick.” They officially reopened as of November 29th.

The menu at The Rabbit Hole is upscale bar and grill with an entire taco selection including birria, shrimp, chicken, confit duck leg and smashed potatoes. The entree menu consists of fish and chips, chicken milanese, pan seared duck breast, braised short ribs, and pan seared salmon among other choices.

They are serving a selection of beer and wine along with a specialty cocktail menu of 14 concoctions. The Silver Fox is made with Absolut Citron Vodka, Triple Sec, fresh lime, white cranberry juice, and edible glitter. The Secret Agent has Tanqueray gin, fresh lemon, and Earl Grey honey infused syrup. The Hot Rabbit has Sauza Silver tequila, Triple Sec, fresh lime, sour mix, Mike’s hot honey, and a spicy rim.

When Anchor Down announced it was closing on social media they promised that chef and owner Stephen Rosenbluth would eventually reopen in the location with a new restaurant concept that would suit patrons year-round. The Rabbit Hole Bar & Grill is what Anchor Down has become.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
