After Delays, The Stone Goat in St. James Set to Open in Mid-May

The owners of the much-anticipated The Stone Goat Restaurant & Brewery are looking to open in a couple of months.

“Of course we’ve had a bunch of unexpected delays,” said co-owner Nick Gounaris in an email to LongIslandRestaurants. They are hopeful that they can get things wrapped up soon.

“We are currently on track to open in mid-May,” he said.

In the restaurant business, grand opening dates are always moving targets due to delays at every part of the process from construction to permitting to final certifications. A number of anticipated restaurant openings on Long Island saw delays. Castaways in Port Jefferson finally opened last month after planning to open Fall 2023. People are eagerly awaiting the opening of Elaine’s in Setauket – from the former manager of Pentimento and the owners of Firehouse Restaurant and Bar in Sound Beach are waiting for their liquor license.

The Stone Goat owners have big plans for the space. They’re putting in a sunroom in the front of the building, two bars (one upstairs and one down), a second floor deck, expanding the building, and installing a brewery on premises.

The restaurant at 552 North Country Road had most recently been St. James Public House. Before that it was briefly Grant’s Place and Five.Five 2. Prior to that it was O’s Food & Wine Bar.
